COVID 19 - UPDATE- DAY 114 From our Deputy Head, Mrs. Mutoro
Finally, the day we’d all been waiting for with bated breath was here and it was the big man sitting at the helm, H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta giving the 9th state address on the COVID 19 pandemic.
But before I delve deeper into this address, please allow me to share today’s statistics:
Samples tested today: 2131
Tested positive today: 181
Total tested positive so far: 8067
Recovered today: 127
Total recoveries so far: 2,414
Deaths today: 4
Death toll so far: 164
Listening to the President’s address, one could not fail to see how tough a decision it was to reopen the country, but of greatest importance was the fact that he took his time to advise us on the implications of this perceived ‘freedom’.
Something else that stood out was the call for ‘a change of mindset’ which I believe is key as we forge on. This is call to re-imagine, rethink and redesign – that reminds me of a training we had at the beginning of the Academic Year on ’Design Thinking’. Which involves redefining problems in an attempt to identify alternative strategies and solutions. This is what we all need to work towards.
I like a quote he gave towards the end of his address ‘A crisis always has two ends: the first is danger and the second is success’ to achieve the latter, we have to exploit opportunities but also avoid the dangers.
As we await further guidance from the Ministry of Education, probably tomorrow (as promised this afternoon), let’s keep our hope alive and pray without ceasing.
I guess now I can go back to my marking…
Stay safe and be a brother’s or sister’s keeper and we shall all emerge winners.
