COVID-19 - UPDATE- DAY 19 from the Director Mrs. Radhika Lee
# STAYATHOME #BREAKTHECHAIN
He was back for briefing today, our CS for Health, Hon. Mutahi Kagwe..and he started off by thanking the brave girl Brenda, our first case of COVID-19, who volunteered and came in to quarantine. Then he spoke about how people were sceptical initially, to the extent some didn't even believe Kenya had been hit by Coronavirus..but he said with the increasing number of cases now, we need to reckon that it is here and we need to do everything in our power to keep it at a minimum unlike Italy and Spain, where death tolls seem to be soaring as high as almost a thousand daily. Then he gave us the number of confirmed positive cases for the day.. 22 and I (most Kenyans did too ..I am sure) sat there dumbfounded! That is the most cases that have been reported in a day so far. The numbers have escalated in a span of three weeks to 81.. unbelievable !!!
It has been another busy day, where from morning I have been with our HR and then our Finance department, trying to come up with strategies to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 stricken economy. These are surely trying times for SMEs and Entrepreneurs, who are still finding their footing in their respective sectors.
Government and Financial institutions need to have separate policies in place for people like us..who run SMEs and are entrepreneurs. They need to remember we have also been contributing to the GDP of this country, despite all our hardships. We probably have employed and sustained more people than many traditional legends in various sectors. Isn't it time they recognised the plight and did something about it..?
COVID-19 has surely thrown the spanner in the works. . the unforeseen, the unexpected, the uncertain nature of this disease that came without any warning at all, for organisations like NIS.. this has been the greatest challenge so far in our 11 years of existence. As always, I want to believe that God will come through for us even in this instance, like HE has always done, for, our intentions are pure!
Are you all staying at home? Are you washing your hands as many times as possible with soap and water? Have you managed to get and stock some face masks ? ARE YOU PRAYING ???
I want to share something that I saw posted on social media by one of my old students this morning.. it made me laugh and forget for a few minutes the pandemonium around us with the fears of a community spread of the dreaded COVID-19.
This is how it went...
"Just seen a news report about the stresses and strains of self-isolation. It reported that people are going crazy from being in lockdown!
It was strange, actually, because I had just been talking about this with the microwave and toaster and all of us agreed that things are getting bad. I didn't mention anything to the washing machine as she always has to put a different spin on everything, and certainly not to the fridge as he is acting cold and distant. In the end the iron calmed me down. She said everything will be fine, which surprised me because she’s usually the first one to apply unnecessary pressure and get steamed up over nothing !!! I think she might have been sneaking off to the medicine cabinet. 😂😂"
Goodnight Good people and God Bless !
